As Far As I Can Tell

While I was in the library today I overheard a strange conversation between the audio/video resource librarian and a group of 3 elderly patrons. They were checking out books on mp3, along with an mp3 player. The librarian asked them if they have Internet access, and they said they didn’t. Without any further prompting the supposedly technologically savvy librarian launches into a big speech about how she totally understands, and that at home she only has a computer because she needs it for work. She elaborates, saying that that she’s thinking about moving it into the basement so she won’t have to look at it anymore.

Why is this woman in charge of renting out computer/technology related items when she’s clearly so against it? It’s a shame that she pushes this kind of thinking on the elderly—to my mind the group that needs help embracing technology the most.
